Curriculum by Year and Term

Curriculum – Foundation Stage (Grade 1)

Teaching in Grade 1 builds on the learning experiences children have already achieved at home. This develops through to the starts of Grade 2. Most of the learning children do is through structured play, which is appropriate to the needs of very young children. Teachers follow the Foundation Stage curriculum, which sets out learning in six areas. We encourage children to learn through exploration and play. All children in the Early Years Foundation Stage enjoy in our on-site play ground.

Curriculum – Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 (Grades 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6)

Children are taught a range of skills, understanding and knowledge that give them the basic skills to achieve their maximum potential during their education and throughout their lives. Outdoor learning (in our very own school) is highly valued at Challenge International. The curriculum is varied and outstanding. We aim to develop cooperation and tolerance alongside academic skills and a will to succeed and excel. We encourage children to be independent learners who, as they grown older, take responsibility for their actions.

Learning is continually assessed and teaching adjusted to meet the abilities and interests of our children. A range of teaching styles and approaches are used to actively engage and enthuse all children in their learning. Where possible, outside learning is incorporated into the curriculum and the local environment and community members are fully utilised to make learning relevant and fun.
Children are taught:

The core subjects – English, Mathematics and Science.

The foundation subjects – History, Geography, Music, Art, Computing, Arabic and Islamic Studies.

Our Extracurricular Activities at Challenge

Parents spend a lot of time encouraging their children to study more — and play less — in the pursuit of this goal. They believe that devoting a great deal of time to studying guarantees success in their future academic life.

However, we at Challenge International apply and put into practice, more playful component of a well-rounded education — outside the regular academic program — that may positively impact students’ success. Extracurricular activities, such as football, swimming lessons, playtime, theatre, and drama and computer clubs can round out students’ academic careers to great effect.

Besides being fun and a great way to socialise with peers, extracurricular activities can enhance pupils’ time management and discipline skills, improving overall productivity.

“Studies show that pupils in extracurricular activities have higher [academic] scores. They learn to manage their time, relieve stress and learn to strive for excellence in more than one thing,”
